Services and Databases

The Elizabeth Taber Library offers a wide variety of services to meet the educational, informational, cultural and recreational need of patrons, including:

Collection

The Library's collection includes books, magazines, audio cassettes, museum passes and a rental collection of videos and DVDs. Please see our Policies for more information on how to check items out.

Your library card is good at the over 70 libraries of the SAILS library network. You can RESERVE materials from any library to be picked up at the library of your choice. To search iBistro, the SAILS catalog, you will need your library barcode and your PIN which is usually the last four digits of your phone number.

You can also RENEW items checked out on your library card. Click on My Account at the top of the iBistro home page and follow the directions.

Can't find what you are looking for in iBistro? Search for materials in libraries beyond the SAILS network using the Virtual Catalog.

The Elizabeth Taber Library has a year-long subscription to Grolier Online.
It is a reference resource for students of all ages. The library's license includes the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, for elementary school age and beyond; the New Book of Knowledge, for grades three and up; Lands and Peoples, geared to middle school students and older, and the Book of Popular Science, geared to middle school and older.
Grolier Online is available at the library on the Data computer in the Children's area, as well as on our website. To use the database here, click on the icon below. You will need your SAILS library card number to access the resource.

Search for magazine articles or find information in reference books and special databases.

Wireless Access

Patrons with wifi accessible laptops may use them anywhere in the library. Ask for the monthly password at the Front Desk.

24/7 Reference

E-mail a brief reference question to the library and we will respond within 24 hours of your request.

Children's Room

The Children's Room offers Autumn, Winter, and Spring storytimes for toddlers (24-39 mos) and preschoolers (ages 3-5years); Lapsit time, a four week program for infants (birth through 23 months); weekday and weekend drop-in activites October through April; a summer program for children 2-12 years old (which includes storytimes, crafts, activities, reading games, a list of suggested summer reading compiled by the Children's Librarian and the Sippican School Media Specialist, a Junior Volunteer program), as well as special programs throughout the year.

HOME DELIVERY

The library has a group of volunteers who will deliver books, audiotapes and videos to homebound persons. Anyone who cannot come in for a short or long period of time, due to any difficulty, should call and make arrangements for materials to be brought to them. A librarian will choose appropriate titles as requested and check them out using the patron's card in the database. Times of drop off and pickup will be set up by the patron and volunteer.

INTERNET TUTORIALS

The staff offers teaching sessions on public computers in both use of iBistro (the catalog) and the Internet, on an as-needed basis. However, for a more comprehensive experience of the many ways to search for information, we recommend contacting us, in order to set up an individual tutoring session tailored to the patron's specific level of expertise and need. Sessions usually last about 45 minutes.

SUNDAY OPENINGS

From the first Sunday in October until the last in April, the library is open on Sundays 1-4 p.m. These hours are offered so that patrons may use our resources at a more leisurely pace. A staff member is on hand to assist with reference and reader's advisory questions. Three Sunday papers are available to peruse, as well as for crossword puzzle copying. Students are encouraged to come in to finish assignments which may be due early in the week. Also, young children can always find a drop-in craft project provided just for their enjoyment. There's something for everyone.
