Good reading habits are the foundation of success in academics. The objectives of the English Department in requiring summer reading for students entering grades 6, 7, and 8 are to strengthen reading skills, and cultivate reading for pleasure. All students will choose one of the two books listed under their grade level to read during the summer. Students are strongly encouraged to read the second book listed for extra credit. Students will be assessed on their understanding of their first book choice in the fall; it would be wise to take some brief notes on the setting, characters, and plot.
