B.M.C. Durfee High School Mission Statement / Expectations


Mission Statement

The mission of B.M.C. Durfee High School of Fall River is to promote opportunities for students to develop skills, enabling them to think, communicate, and solve problems effectively. Durfee provides students with a cooperative and rigorous learning environment, utilizing diversified instructional strategies to meet their individual needs.
Our goals are to:
  • Provide a safe, secure and clean facility.
  • Guide students to become contributing members of a competitive, diverse and evolving society.
  • Promote collaboration among school, students, parents, and the community.
  • Encourage positive work habits, emphasizing punctuality and attendance.


Student Expectations

Students will be able to:

Academically

  1. Demonstrate preparedness for class.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to listen with understanding.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to read with understanding.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to speak effectively in Standard English.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to write effectively in Standard English.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to apply information to solve problems and make decisions.
  7. Demonstrate the skills needed for the productive use of technology.
  8. Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively to solve problems.
Civically
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the respective roles and functions of local, state, and federal government.
  2. Demonstrate responsibility for their civic and personal growth.
  3. Demonstrate involvement in community and/or business activities.
Socially
  1. Demonstrate an acceptance of individual diversity.
  2. Demonstrate an acceptance of cultural diversity.
  3. Demonstrate respect for all.


School Expectations

Durfee High School will:
  1. Provide an integrated curriculum to help students meet Performance Expectations which are responsive to student, parent and community needs.
  2. Provide teaching that addresses diverse learning styles and interdisciplinary learning.
  3. Ensure the physical safety and health of all in the school, and increase acceptance and understanding of different ethnic backgrounds in a well managed-learning environment.
  4. Provide consistency in meting out discipline to all students.
  5. Provide increased student contact with the guidance Department and improved communication with non-English-speaking parents to help students achieve their goals.
  6. Provide repairs to the school in a timely manner and to maintain a healthful environment on a daily basis.
