    : Library Cards

Anyone may apply for a library card. Please bring a driver's license or another form of picture identification with your current address on it. People under the age of sixteen must have a parent or guardian with required identification sign their application to receive their library card. You must have a valid library card with you to check out items.

    : Fines

There are no fines on items belonging to the Holmes Public Library. However, if an item was borrowed from another library, you may incur fines. Overdue rates for other libraries are set at their discretion.

    : Internet and Computer Use

The Holmes Public Library provides public access to the Internet in keeping with its role as a source of information, intellectual development, and enrichment for the community.

Internet workstations are located in the "Wireless Center". Before using one of the computers, patrons must present a valid library card at the main desk. Sign-up is for 30 minutes of use (longer if no one is waiting) on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Internet is a valuable information resource for all. However, users should be aware that there is no central quality control of the Internet and that the Holmes Public Library assumes no responsibility for the content or accuracy of the information retrieved. As is the case with all other library materials, any restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the child's parent or legal guardian. Parents who wish to limit their children to filtered access on the Internet must fill out the Limited Internet Access form, available at the circulation desk.

The library prohibits the transmission of any materials in violation of any federal or state regulation. This includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted material; threatening, violent or obscene material; pornographic material; or material protected by trade secret. Use for any commercial purpose is also prohibited.

The library's Internet is intended for research and information. Workstations are not to be used for games or chat rooms. Internet computers will not be used for illegal activity, to access illegal materials, or to access materials which by local community standards would be obscene or violent. Users will not make any attempt to gain unauthorized access to restricted files or networks, or to damage or modify computer equipment. Library employees are authorized to take prompt and appropriate actions to enforce the rules of conduct and/or prohibit use by patrons who fail to comply with the Internet Safety and Acceptable Use Policy.

Library staff is available to assist novice users of the Internet. Library staff does offer library sponsored programs designed for patrons interested in in-depth training in gaining computer literacy.

The library is not responsible for damage to a user's disk, loss of data, or damage or liability that may occur from use of the library's computers.
