About the Youth Department

Our young patrons are very important to us and we want to make every visit a happy and safe one.  There are diaper changing tables in both adult restrooms, and child-sized restrooms in the Youth Room.  The book drop is open 24 hours for quick returns without removing children from the car.  Please do not park in the fire lanes for library visits.  You may request renewals over the phone and we are happy to provide printouts of the items checked out on your record at any time.

The Youth Room contains materials for parents and children from birth through 8th grade.  The Library Trustees and the Friends of the Library regularly sponsor presentations for children, including magic shows, musical programs, storytellers, and science and animal programs.  Most of these programs do not require pre-registration.  All programming is advertised in the Mansfield News, the Attleboro Sun Chronicle, in the library newsletters, and in our online events calendar.

Parenting Program

The Parenting Collection can be found in front of the Youth Room desk. It contains books, magazines and videos on home teaching, crafts and activities for young children.  Notices about book and child-related events are posted on the bulletin board.  Monthly schedules of events can also be found at the Youth Librarian's desk.

Story Times

Story times do not require pre-registration.  Ages 2 and under meet Tuesdays at 10:15 or Fridays at 11:00.  Ages 2 & 3 meet Thursdays at 11:00.   Ages 3 & 4 meet Fridays at 10:15.  Ages 4 & 5 meet Thursdays at 10:15 or 1:00.  Check our online events calendar for more information on story time sessions.

Pajama Time

Pajama Time takes place on the first Wednesday of every month, at 6:30 pm.  Stories and rhymes are geared for children ages 3 and up.  No pre-registration is required.  Children are welcome to wear pajamas and bring a stuffed animal.

Monthly Craft and Activity Programs
Check our monthly newsletters and the online events calendar for other programs offered by the Youth Department.  There’s something different each month!

Summer Library Adventure

The Mansfield Public Library participates each summer in the Massachusetts Statewide Summer Reading Program, sponsored by each local library, the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.  Children ages 2-13 can enjoy our reading raffles, weekly story times, craft and activity programs, and Family Fun events on Monday nights.  Most programs do not require pre-registration.  Schedules of events are sent home through the elementary schools, are available in the Youth Room newsletter, and are listed in the online events calendar.
