Information about how to use ReferenceUSA

 ReferenceUSA US Business Module  will provide you with information about over 13 million US businesses. You can find information about individual companies such as address, industry, volume of sales, number of employees and executive names. You can search businesses in a specific industry or location that meet certain criteria. You can find out about the parent companies.

Quick Search

Quick Search lets you search by company name, city, state or phone number. After you enter all your criteria, single click on “Search Now.” The records that meet your search criteria will be displayed in groups of 25. Use the page numbers to search through the numerous pages of records. To view a full profile for a specific record, click on the company’s name in blue. This will give you all the information available for that specific company.

Custom Search

Custom Search lets you search any combination of search fields. To get to the custom search, just single click on the tab that says “Custom Search.” After you have entered all of the criteria that you wish to search by, single click on “Create Search Form.” Fill in the specific criteria you wish to search by in the “Search Criteria Fields”  screen and single click “Search Now.” All of the records that meet your criteria will be displayed in groups of 25. Click on the company’s name in blue to view the information available on that company.  You can use an asterisk to do a wildcard search in "Company Name" or "Executive Name" search fields. When choosing "Geography Selects" for a city, choose the “City, State” choice (not “City, State” AND “State.” When searching under a company name, be as simple as possible. The Linkage column is used to find parent or subsidiary information. You can find SIC codes at Listsareus.com.

2. What is the telephone number for the headquarters of Carrabba’s Italian Grill chain of restaurants?

To Download

The number of records that can be downloaded at one time is noted at the bottom of the screen. Select the records you wish to download, then single click "Download" at the top or bottom of the screen. Choose your format (Comma delimited works well with Excel.) Select your level of detail: Summary will give you company name, address, etc. Detailed gives you the full profile.

To Print

The number of records that can be printed is noted at the bottom of the page. Select the records you wish to print by using the checkboxes. Then click on the word "Print" at the top or bottom of the screen. Select your level of detail: Summary for basic name, address, etc. Detail for the full profile. Click on your browser print or press Ctrl-P to call up the print window.

This database is available on the library internet computers without the need of a library card.
