Full Time Head of Circulation

Statement of Duties
Responsible for administrative, supervisory, and direct service work overseeing the general circulation operations of the Library, including the supervision of library pages and circulation staff, as well as a broad range of operational responsibilities.
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Library Director; is familiar with work routine and uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently and without specific instructions. The Library Director provides instructions, for new or other responsibilities. Required to work independently and as part of a team in the analysis and evaluation of programs and in the development of new and/or revised programs.
Provides general supervision to library technicians and pages staff with ongoing instructions and guidance.
Access to confidential information related to confidential employee matters and library patron records.
Essential Functions
Responsible for all activities and functions relating to the circulation of materials and related services
including but not limited to: registration of library patrons; monitoring circulation transactions, requests, and, records; interlibrary loan transactions; the effective functioning of all aspects of automated circulation within a networked and regional environment
Collaborates with staff to review, select, and place orders for collections in accordance with the library’s Selection of Materials Policy
Participates in the budget process
Assists patrons in using library materials and services including but not limited to computers, printing, reference materials, library policies, and bibliographic instruction
Performs inventory for circulation desk supplies and orders supplies
May participate in presentations, programing, or other engagement activities
Contributes to library social media and other outreach activities
Develops and maintains effective working relationships
Works independently and as part of a team
Maintains patron confidentiality
Reach and retrieve books at high and low shelf heights; ability to stand/sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift and/or move up to 50lbs
Represents the library at SAILS circulation meetings, communicates to staff updates in library circulation equipment, procedures, and policies.
Trains library staff on circulation procedures and policies
Work a flexible schedule including evening/weekend assignments.
Other duties as assigned by director
Position is 37 hours/week, must be able to work Evenings and Saturdays.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of library policies and procedures, including automated circulation systems and information technology
Knowledge of library circulation operations
Principles, theories, and concepts of library services
Excellent problem-solving, time management, and public speaking skills
Knowledge and experience working with computer software applications & online databases
Proficiency in current and emerging technologies
Flexibility in prioritizing projects
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Analyze complex problems and evaluate alternatives/creative solutions
Education Required: Master of Library Science degree or working toward MLS degree preferred. Equivalent may be decided by the Library Director.
Salary: $$20-$23 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Benefited position.
