Introduction

This lesson was developed as part of a graduate course called "Internet for Educators" in the summer of 2001.

Most students immediately choose the Internet as their first resource when searching for information. Yet, many of them have little idea of what constitutes reliable information on the Internet. Although they will have no trouble locating information, in many cases the information may be inaccurate, out of date, poorly organized or poorly presented, or even in some cases deliberately misleading or biased. This lesson seeks to instruct students on the evaluation of Internet resources as sources of information. It presents criteria and an evaluation chart with specific questions for site evaluation. Students will learn how to locate resources that reflect quality, reliability, and good taste.
