Part Time Library Cataloger
Essential Functions: Under the supervision of the Library Director, the cataloger is responsible for all technical services aspects of the library, including but not limited to cataloging (original and copy cataloging) and processing all library acquisitions, including donations, and maintenance of the collection in the network database; and will:
Oversee the condition of the collection, and be responsible for book repair and the training and supervision of those who make repairs to materials.
Monitor and maintain cataloging statistics and report these to the Library Director each month.
Take inventory and order library supplies in collaboration with the library director. Monitor library supplies budget.
Represent the library at network cataloging meetings and roundtables, and report items of note to the Library Director and other staff. Will keep current with network policies and procedures as these evolve.
Train other staff in the tasks and duties of the department so these staff members can assist as needed.
Attend regular staff meetings and communicate frequently with other departments to ensure the smooth functioning of library activities.
The cataloger may be asked to fill in for other staff in other departments as patron needs and scheduling may require.
The cataloger performs other duties as required by management to meet the goals of the library’s strategic plan and to comply with public safety as required by town policies.
Two to three years’ experience in a public library setting.
Bachelor’s degree required. M.L.I.S desired. Coursework in related fields or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Demonstrated excellent customer service skills and an appreciation for public service.
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious interpersonal relationships with patrons and staff of diverse backgrounds, ages and abilities.
Demonstrated ability to understand indexing and cataloging systems in order to manage and locate library materials.
Ability to handle details with accuracy.
Demonstrated excellent computer skills as they apply to the public library and the department’s purpose.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and is skilled in using tact and diplomacy. Demonstrates a high regard for patron privacy.
Excellent computer skills, including experience with Office products, email, and related software. Social media skills helpful.
Successful outcome of CORI screening as determined by the appropriate authority and a physical examination and drug screening will be required.
The Technical Services library technician/cataloger will work in a typical library environment. May need to bend, reach and lift items up to 50 lbs. Schedule may include an evening and will include some weekends.

The hourly wage is currently $17.02 per hour. The town of Mattapoisett offers part-time employees sick time and personal time as allowed.
